I Rock!

Hey guys!! Yesterday I went rock climbing! I had so much fun. But if you guys know anything about me, you there’s at least 1 story 🙂
I was a little nervous because I have never been rock climbing  before so I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect. Honestly I was nervous about getting to the top of the walls. That, my friends was not a problem. The problem was coming down. They thought I was just going to let go and drop 😌 Chile stop it. Yes, I was harnessed in, but I don’t know that harness, or pulley system like THAT! We had just met, lol.  So I Spider-Man’d up like a champ and did likewise coming down, lmao!!

When I got to the top, a fear of heights kicked in like a turbo booster! Honey Boo boo chile! I just could not let go! Then I climbed a partial way and tried to let go. Then halfway, then 3/4 of the way. I could NOT let go!

Then I was challenged by one of the ladies. I NEVER back down from a challenge or someone saying I can’t do something. So I spun on my heels and I shimmed up the wall like a champ. And then this happened, I looked down, father forgive me! The ladies I went with were very supportive and screamed NO DONT LOOK DOWN!! lol lol! They were saying just let GOOOOOO!! After a few minutes I was like freak it! This belaying down does NOT win!!
I let go! And I lived to tell the story! 😃 I had so much fun! I can’t wait to go back! It’s a great workout and a lot of fun. Oh and the fella in the photo is now my Atlanta Rocks boo! Had much fun and talked much trash with him. I highly recommend trying this if you haven’t. If you have what was your experience?

Back, at it

Ya girl is tired today. I got that thang put on me by my Beast (aka trainer) today. I think he tried to incapacitated me for the weekend. But chile I regenerate like Wolverine. (Looks at bruised arms from 2 weeks ago and giggles)
Well today was back day. And he beat that back like I was a runaway. Father forgive him even-though he knew EXACTLY what he was doing!(Rolls eyes) But I’m turning the other cheek, which I’m sure he will take care of next week. I mean honestly, it’s best to live in truth (shrugs and giggles) It was a great workout.
I love working out with my trainer. And I love seeing the changes in my body. As well as gaining the strength I need to do things I would have never thought  I could do when I started this journey. I’ve done several 5k’s, a 15K, several obstacle races, climbed over 15′ walls, swung like Tarzan over freezing water, carried a 75lb bucket of rocks for and ungodly length of time, jumped over blazing fire, swam through swamps, and I have the ability strength and endurance to do ANYTHING I choose. How awesome is THAT.

Embracing my journey and all that it holds. Endless possibilities. #GRGT

 

Back Work

 

Salvation

The pianist begins to play as the pastor walks from the pulpit. Let the church say Amen! The doors of the church are now open. Will there be one? Will there be one?
I look from left to right, take a deep breath and make my way to the center aisle adjust my dress and begin my walk to salvation.

Because I have just spent 60+ minutes in HELL and I don’t want to spend an eternity there. Yep he was  ’bout the devils business today because I remember my pieces and parts being on fiyah.  That’s really all I have because I’m so tired I just remember the feelings not the actions that brought about the feelings, LMAO. I know it was mostly upper body but that’s ALL I remember. I also remember the deadlifts and those 10 plates on the leg press machine.  Oh and I remember walking to my truck. Even with all that said, I know I loved it. And I know at one point I laughed so hard I cried, cause some dude booty was hungry and eating up his sweats that were DIRECTLY in my line of sight whilst I was trying to press those 10 plates! My gym time is SO FREAKING awesome!

So when I reached the preacher…LOL

Did I happen to mention, I went back to the gym and took a TRX class? Umm well yeah, I did. As I drove to class I began a conversation with myself and it went something like this.

What in the heck are you doing? Why are you going to this class? Aren’t you still tired from that dip in the fiery pit from earlier?

My responses went something like this.

Idk, sigh. Idk, sigh. Hell, yes!

And then I was thinking well I’ll just do what I can. Some will beat none. But, in reality that will not work for that class. My instructors have already have expectations. I’ve talked so much trash, it’s a must I back it up. My instructors even refereed to me as “Beast” as opposed to my name, lol. That just sealed my fate, smh. So I had to beast it out. Jesus take the wheel.

And I did 2 miles on the dreadmill. Yeah, it was slow but I did it 🙂

Progress

Everyone wants a quick fix. We live in a microwave society and that is not in our best interest for many reasons. It’s like the old saying goes, “Anything worth having is worth working for and waiting for.” When things come to fast I don’t think we get a true appreciation for it. We don’t value it like we should. This is true with weight loss as well. We need time to adjust to new mindsets, new bodies, and a new way of life.

The image that I am sharing comes from time, dedication, determination and hard work. I’d rather it take me some time to achieve my results and they be permanent rather than fast and temporary.  My results are from 5-6 days a week workouts, healthy food options and a new mindset. I’m still working towards my goals but I can see all that hard work is paying off in a big way.

Where would I be if I had quit? What would my progress look like (if any) if I had listened to my friends every time  they said ,”Girl go ahead and have that cake.” Or, “Treat yourself your deserve it.” Not where I am now that’s for sure.  They say a picture is worth 1000 words, or in this case it has left some speechless 🙂   Trust the process and never quit.

Hot Chocolate 5k/15k

I DID it!! I completed my first 15k! I am so proud of myself. I finished faster than I thought I would (2:20 minus a wait in line for a potty break) and I was not as tired as I thought I would be. Who’s winning? This girl, points to self.
It was cold out there, 33 degrees and I was so cold it looked like I had some sort of palsy, I couldn’t stop shivering, my toes well, I wasn’t sure if they were still there, because I could not feel them after waiting an hour to start. Let me just say, the porta potty scruggle is REAL! I prayed like I was praying for my kids before I went inside that above ground cesspool. And that’s ALL I have to say about that! Moving on. I still smell it, (throws up in mouth, just a little)

There were so many people participating. This is the biggest race I have participated in. It was so exciting. I won’t go into everything but it was an amazing experience. I jogged for the 1st mile then I walked jogged every 1/2 mile. However, I am going to start working on adding more distance to my run time. I want to be able to improve on my time. The hills tho, that’s all I have to say about those. Well, no, there were so many of them. It’s like they were on the buddy system! Always at least 2 in a row. And once I hit mile 6 or 7, I questioned why I was there lol. And THEN I had to go AGAIN. 😦 I prayed AGAIN. And again, that was not pleasant, there has GOT to be a better way. And lawd Jesus, I messed up and looked in the hole. (throws up a lot in my mouth)

My 15K

Oh another thing. I learned and witnessed this today. Don’t drink the water they hand out along the race route. Why not? Check this out. They pop the fire hydrant hook up a hose and fill a trash bag lined TRASHCAN and dip the water out with pitchers. They place the pitchers on the tables, the ground everywhere and then they dip again. Jesus be some e.coli, salmonella, cholera, and typhoid immunizations. IJS LOL that’s just NAAAS-TY.

Last but definitely not least, I took a little piece of my husband with me today. The little “S” tie pin in the top right picture, was his that he wore to work each day. He loved to run on 15k’s and 1/2 marathons and he was preparing for one when he was diagnosed. For those that don’t know, I’m a widow and he is my angel. When it became rough and I needed to push I just rubbed the tie pin thought about him telling me I can do it and persevered. My first big race is dedicated him. XO Honey.

I think I might be getting the bug. Looking for my next race 🙂

Mano y Mano(a)

Ahhh, it was weights, gloves, and booty kicking time today. Oh how I L-O-V-E it, when he tells me he is going to “Break me” nothing pushes me more. Although I know it’s going to push me to my limits both physically and emotionally, there’s just something about it when we go there. Of course I’m no match for him because he is definitely a beast of beast-like proportion. This man is so freakishly strong, he just really amazes me. And I’d like to be his tiny beast. I’m working on it that’s for sure.

So today was L-E-G day. Whoot whoot. We did a gazillion leg press at 450lbs. We did at least 10 sets of 15 reps. And we did hamstring curls. Child boo. We also did a bit of shoulder and bicep work. Oh and how could I forget those deadlift with the shrugs at the top! 5 sets 15 reps 90lbs.(for me-giggles)

By the time we were done, I was side stepping like I had had something to drink. Did that a few times later in the day as well, lol. But I love leg day even the subsequent days of D.O.M.S. I’m so happy I have a trainer that pushes me and I’m even happier I have one that delivers results! Perry and The Wright Xperience!

Super set Saturday

Before the sun decided to shine, I cracked open 1 eye to peep at the clock. 1 hour to go. I closed that eye and the alarm went off. WHERE did that hour go? The sun was still deciding if it was time to rise and shine and my feet had already hit the floor. 25 degrees enough said. I layer up and prepare to hit the gym. I’m tired, sleep, and sore from previous days workouts, but I want this so I’m out the door blasting The Notorious B.I.G to get me pumped as I head north to the gym.

Ha, I beat the beast there, again lol. When he arrives, it’s quickly made clear its leg day! First stop, leg press machine Yay (with all of the sarcasm I can muster) We started at 90lbs and went up too 540lbs. 6 sets 15 reps each. There was hamstring curls between sets. Then there were the Turkish squats with weights from 10lbs up to 30lbs. And then BACK to the ol leg press machine were we did drop sets, from 540 down to 90lbs. I enjoyed the descent more than the ascent 🙂 Let me explain something, Leg day was Monday (all squats) my legs still have not FULLY recovered from that. So on the leg press machine I could swear that was a little fire monster under there with his little blow torch focused on my booty and hamstrings! Yes, all that was on fire. Then some how he moved around to my quads and opened his little torch up on them! Pure fiyah! We finished off with kettlebell swings, 5 sets from 8lbs to 30lb 15 reps each. Another great one in the books.

Is there a better way to start the weekend? Well, I could think of one, but that’s a post for my other blog 🙂
